Who We Are and How We Work
Providing safe and effective fire suppression design and engineering services since 2002.
We’re experts in sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps and special systems. Our designs display a deep knowledge of involved codes and industry standards, working to save lives and mitigate property damage.
Based in Coquitlam, BC, we’ve completed projects across Canada, and are expanding to the United States.
Founded with a Commitment to Superior Service
Northwest Sprinkler Company was founded in 2002 by Peter Van Gaalen with the goal to provide the best possible service. While Peter passed on the baton of ownership to Admir Hajdarevic and Yadim Amador Castillo in 2021, they have continued Peter’s service legacy while expanding the service area and cementing Northwest Sprinkler Company’s reputation as a trustworthy source of effective fire suppression design and engineering services.
A Fast Response Time You Can Count On
Our commitment to great service has led us to achieve the fastest response time in the industry. We believe in maintaining a professional relationship with all of our clients and maximizing our availability to serve their needs. That means we’ll respond quicker than our competitors when it comes to correspondence, issues on site, and project turn-around time.
We’re proud to say that the number one feedback we get from our clients is that we have the fastest response time they’ve ever seen.
Proven Collaboration for a Successful Project
Working in step with real estate developers, construction management companies, general contractors, fire sprinkler contractors, or mechanical engineering firms, our fire suppression design and engineering services are an essential part of the building or renovation process.
Based on a project’s unique scope, we layout and calculate the fire suppression systems needed. Our service includes any necessary revisions, collaborating with other consultants, the issue of letters of assurance required by local authorities, and a construction process overview.
And if we run into challenges along the way? We take pride in being proven independent problem solvers.
From Skyscrapers to Family Homes, No Structure is Too Big or Too Small
Our portfolio includes a variety of buildings, with a strong presence in the high-density residential market.
We have experience designing fire suppression systems for residential family dwellings of any size, high rise residential or mixed-use complexes, mid-size residential complexes that are wood frame and up to six stories high, tenant improvements, warehouses, institutional buildings (hospitals, schools, correctional facilities), industrial processing plants, breweries, distilleries, and retail buildings of any size.
Expertise Paired with Attention to Detail Means It’s All in the Plans
We have the expertise, accountability and customer service that will address every need in regard to fire suppression for any project.
Our technical expertise and attention to detail provide solutions that are consistent, compliant and feasible. We always advise based on experience and technical knowledge from codes, standards and manuals. And if we don’t know? We’ll do the research.
Our head engineer is always involved in the design process and ensures the clients best interests are met, and our multi-step quality process and internal review system ensures that only the best work is done.
Drafting Done Right
Our high quality of drafting sets us apart from our competitors. Our goal is to make our drawings foolproof. They are clean, clear and notated, including all relevant details so that there isn’t anything left to the imagination.
We use the latest software, reducing design time and increasing hydraulic calculation accuracy, which minimizes pipe sizes to reduce installation costs.
To sum it up, our mission is to be the first name you think of when it comes to fire sprinklers. We’re the best at what we do, delivering on results and value. Request a quote now for your next project.
Meet Our Team!
Admir Hajdarevic began his career in 2016 with Northwest Sprinkler Company after completing his diploma in Mechanical Engineering at BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology). Admir completed the Mechanical Systems Program which focused on HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Suppression System Design and Engineering, and is an AutoSPRINK expert.
Since graduation he has gained experience in both the contracting and engineering field, including a position with the Gisborne Group. Admir has received his Applied Scientist designation (AScT) in 2019 and is eligible for his P.L.Eng designation. In his spare time, Admir enjoys playing basketball, soccer, and video games. An avid Arsenal F.C. fan, he’s been to the Emirates Stadium in London. On weekends he can be found watching NFL Redzone, praying his fantasy team wins.
Yadim Amador Castillo
A Professional Engineer specializing in water-based fire protection and plumbing systems, Yadim has over 12 years of experience. His varied experience in mechanical engineering includes work in the mining, manufacturing, and construction industries. Yadim graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and currently holds a P.Eng designation in British Columbia, as well as his plumbing / sprinkler ticket.
Over the last 7 years, he has been dedicated to the design and installation of fire sprinkler systems. His roles in the industry have ranged from hands-on work as a certified sprinkler fitter to Consulting Engineer. He started with Northwest Sprinkler in 2018, working as a designer until early 2021, and then moved into his current role as a principal within the firm. Yadim likes to spend his free time cooking for his family and is a devoted fan of Mexican-style seafood. He also likes to sing and play guitar with his oldest daughter.
Peter Van Gaalen
Peter van Gaalen is the founding member of the team. His career in Fire Protection began in his family’s business, Viking Sprinkler Co. Ltd. in 1976. Viking was a design-build contractor even before design-build was a thing. Under the tutelage of his father and Professional Engineers like Mike Saunders and Dan Wong, Peter was soon designing and estimating Fire Protection systems for all facets of Business, Education, and Industry. Projects successfully estimated, designed, or managed included sawmills, hospitals, schools, office towers, pulp and paper mills, warehousing, shopping malls, and later in his career at Viking, residential developments from single-family projects to high-rise towers.
During his tenure at Viking, Peter grew within the Firm to eventually become President of the successor Company, Viking Fire Suppression Ltd. Peter also served as President of the BC Automatic Sprinkler Association, and on the board of Directors of the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association (CASA).
